Edmodo Support for Teachers

  • Starting in January 2016, students will no longer be able to access Edmodo on districtwide devices and on HISD networks. Teachers will continue to use Edmodo to collaborate with fellow teachers, but will no longer be able to use the learning platform with their students. Instead, teachers can use the HUB, a K-12 teaching and learning platform that launched districtwide this school year. Having one K-12 online platform will create equity and consistency across schools and will allow for better support and training as HISD digitally transforms teaching and learning.

In addition to using the HUB to develop lessons, distribute and collect assignments, create and deliver quizzes and tests, and communicate and engage with students, the HUB is a one stop shop for HISD teachers to access the district’s curriculum, professional development, and all approved digital resources and publisher content. Digital content in the HUB library is also available for teachers to search by key words and standards.

Many HISD teachers who were using Edmodo have already successfully made the transition to the HUB and say the platform is useful for communication and collaboration with students.

“I particularly like the discussion board feature because it has a time stamp and the name of the student when they post, in addition to a running record of their comments,” said Energy Institute High School teacher Valencia Hall.

To help teachers transition from Edmodo to the HUB, a variety of tip sheets and videos have been created that highlight the most common Edmodo features and provide instructions on how to do the same tasks in the HUB.
