    Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

  • Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

The USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program — more commonly referred to as FFVP — provides fresh fruit and vegetable snacks to students at elementary schools.

As part of the program, students receive:

    • Nutrition education
    • Fresh produce snacks two times per week

HISD Nutrition Services oversees this grant-funded program while providing nutrition education. Students will taste and learn about various fruits and vegetables throughout the school year.

  • FFVP EDUCATION

Nutrition education takes the form of fun, informative announcements. Other free campus-based educational activities will be made available to your school. These include:

    • Chef demonstrations with tastings of the featured produce
    • Dietitian-led nutrition activities regarding the featured produce or USDA’s MyPlate
    • "Lunch & Learns" where staff come to provide excitement around the fruits and vegetables served at lunch

Dietitians are also available for special events, including open houses and other campus-based gatherings.
